all the other wallpaper guys have an almost unreadable pointy triangly logo thing

I want one too

Don’t get one because that’s called terrible design

Logos, specifically if they’re words and not just a symbol, need to be readable 100% of the time by the average person, not just you.

You can see the word, sure, but you’re also the designer. you cause confusion in the average person’s eyes by not making your logo clearly readable and accessible to them.

Here’s a story for ya…
Generic animation made in C4D, I gave it some shitty glitchess for shits n’ giggles, exported every frame as individual file, compiled all files in one document and printed on paper.
Then I scanned that print and put it in AE for compiling into a video and sepia color filter (Tumblr’s size limit hates colorful things). Couple of frames got shitty positioning to make it “cooler”.
Now if you’ll excuse me… I’m gonna abuse this technique a little bit more…

Wmill, doing stuff like this only proves why you are one of only a few people that I legitimately respect and look up to as a designer.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - User Interface.

By Eric Bellefeuille - For Eidos Montreal.

I confess I haven’t played much of Deus Ex: Human Revolution since the last time I posted about it. Partly because of being busy with work, partly because I’m playing it at a friend’s house on his console. Still loving the narf out of the interface design on this game.

Often times, young designers can get caught up in appealing to the client, simply because it is the most rewarding group to appeal to. Rather than accepting one’s shortcomings and improvements that must be made, the artist settles simply for something that looks “cool”. Be it for the purpose of conveying a message, to sell a product, or to have a practical use, design should be beautiful in it’s function, not it’s form. — Fuck You - Your Design Sucks and You’re an Asshole

+ UI mockup of Tumblr for iOS because it needs a couple things, that’s for sure; namely new post and notification counters. I also moved the notification area and settings buttons to the lower section, and redesigned the content display to look more like the desktop counterpart (because the iPad screen real estate allows for that).

Just some minor tweaks, but something that could be done fairly easily (and a lot better) by tumblr devs vs just me.

Icons via Railyx and Everdancesounds; photo mine.
